You know how life sometimes takes on a "life" of its own and you feel like you're starting from scratch? Along for the ride? Everything's a little out of control? Not terribly out of control, just... out of reach. The past few weeks, I've only been able to be reactive and not proactive. And you know that just doesn't sit well with me. The day to day feels different. The schedule is busier than I'd thought it would be. I'm stretched, to say the least.
The interesting thing to me is that none of this is bad. Bad as in negative. It's just different. I'm adjusting. Slowly getting back on top of things and putting my game face on for the days that start at 5:30 am and end somewhere around 11pm.
How handsome is he? :)
He's come back from an ankle injury finally and is working his way back into games. He adores football. Loves almost everything about it. Respects his coaches. Works hard in practice. Works harder at his grades to avoid stadium stairs and bear-crawls after practice please his coaches. :D. Good stuff.
Yes, he's 16. Yes, he has his permit. No, he doesn't have his driver's license. Yes, the running him around is killing me and my gas budget.
And here's the Other One. Soccer this year.
He. Loves. It. Yay! I've never seen the kid run as much/as fast/as hard as he does on the soccer field. His team is fairly good but not great, but he's learning a lot this year, and I've seen him improve just in the 4 weeks they've been playing.
Yes, his practices overlap the end of football practice. Yes, I am in the car for roughly 2 1/2 hours three nights a week. Yes, I miss my Georgia Bulldog driver. :)
Speaking of... she's loving Athens and UGA. She's studying probably harder than she needs to (shhhh, don't tell her!) but is having fun getting acclimated, too. And sunburned and hoarse from UGA football games. Lucky her, she gets a break this weekend, because they have a bye! She's coming home for the weekend in two weeks and we're SOOOOO excited!!! I could use an estrogen infusion here at 3299.
Speaking of 3299, repairs continue to plague us. Ah, the pitfalls of a 26 year old home. I won't bore you with the gorey details, just suffice to say that our handyman (aka Jay's hunting buddy Jim) is vacationing in the Caribbean this week. Hmmm. I'm in the wrong business, I think!
Speaking of business, exciting things are happening!!! I am about to become a dot com! Show some Decor has taken hold in the decor blogging niche and as I get ready to open an antiques booth early next year and start offering e-design services, I am launching heidimilton.com in October. Can you believe it? I would never have thought it possible! But I have wonderful friend I met online last spring; she has been one of my biggest Willow House and blogging cheerleaders and she just happens to have a business building websites. So, after several phone and email conversations (that may or may not end up of the girlfriend gabbing variety), we've decided to team up to take my business to the next level. Exciting, right?? I was scared to death, but she is a great 30-something hand-holder with a lot of tech savvy for this forty-something entrepreneur in the making. I'm breathing a little easier and having fun making the design decisions for my new decor space!!
Don't worry-- I'll still be here at What's On Heidi's Mind, posting pics, funny stuff, my occasional 2 cents worth, and other interesting (or not) tidbits of our crazy life. I know I've neglected you while I got myself back on track lately and I'm sorry for that. My brain has been addled and on the severely overtired side. I promise to do better. In fact, I've got some interesting reads to share with you soon!
If you're curious about my Little People this year, they are AH-MAZ-ING. Funny and with different sensibilities than I've had in years past. So smart that I am kept on my toes daily keeping them engaged and challenged. A refreshing change for sure, and a big challenge too. I'm blessed with an awesome assistant, Brandie, that manages to keep up with me and is even sometimes one step ahead of me. My kinda gal. God was good to give her to me this year. :)
So that's the update, gang. Thanks for hanging in there with me while I worked through the past few weeks. More to come soon!!
xoxo, Heidiopia
